AI Content Policy for Editors - April

About

Every editor, copywriter, and organization needs a policy document for working (or not working) with generative artificial intelligence. Why? Generative AI is becoming embedded in editing and word-processing software and fundamental platforms like Microsoft and Google. This prevalence means that AI literacy is no longer optional—it's necessary. All editors, from freelancers to in-house teams, will at some point encounter AI-assisted or -generated copy from a client or contributor—if they haven’t already. This isn’t something that should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Consistency, clarity, and disclosure are essential. "AI Content Policy for Editors” addresses a critical need in the editorial industry for practical, ethical policies on generative AI. An AI content policy documents decisions around the use of AI to ensure that editors and everyone they work with remain transparent and accountable. It’s a living document designed to adapt as technology and professional expectations change. In this course, students learn to draft AI content policies that are practical, ethical, and specific to their work. In four 60-minute sessions, we cover usage, risk, accountability, transparency, and best practices, with ample time for feedback or discussion on specific situations. CLASS NOTES 1) Four 60-minute lessons. Attend live or view later. 2) Case study discussions and optional assignments. 3) Sessions are recorded on speaker view and emailed to students afterward with slides and handout links. 4) Intermediate Level. A working knowledge of how to use at least one mainstream generative AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT-4o, Claude, or Gemini) is recommended in order to get the full benefit of the course.
